Taxis: you can order a taxi using the dedicated phones in main reception and in the main entrance to the Riverside Building.

Bringing flowers for patients: Only flowers in an oasis or pot plants are allowed on the wards. Unfortunately, flowers in water can cause hazards from potential spillages and can also cause unpleasant smells in clinical areas.

Keeping our patients and visitors safe

Smoking and vaping: University Hospital Lewisham is a no smoking site. Please do not smoke or vape anywhere in the hospital or its grounds.

Security: We have security staff at the hospital but cannot ensure the safety of personal belongings while on site. Please do not bring valuables into the hospital when visiting, and do not leave bags unattended.

There are a number of ways for you to get to University Hospital Lewisham quickly and easily, including by bus, train, car or bike.


By bus

A number of buses stop outside or close to the hospital, including: 47, 54, 75 (24 hour service), 122, 136, 185, 199, 208, 284, 484, P4, N36 and N47.

By train

Ladywell Station is a 5-10 minute walk from the hospital. Lewisham, Catford, and Catford Bridge stations are all approximately 1 mile from the hospital.

By car

There is limited parking at the hospital, and you should allow plenty of time to find a parking space. If you have a sat nav, you can enter the postcode SE13 6LH.

Shops and Facilities

There are a wide range of useful facilities at University Hospital Lewisham, including three places to eat and a two shops.
 

Places to eat

Ravensbourne Restaurant 

Ravensbourne Restaurant is located on the first floor of the Green Zone. The restaurant offers of hot meals, sandwiches and salads as well as coffees, teas and other beverages. 

Opening hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 7am to 6pm
  • Saturday to Sunday: 8am to 4pm

Muffin Break

Muffin Break has moved to its new location in the walkway next to the Dermatology department, which can be found behind the Ambulance bay. This is an outdoor space but it is covered and there are some seats. They offer a range of beverages including coffees, teas and hot and cold food.

Opening hours:

  • Monday to Friday from 7am-8pm
  • Saturday and Sunday from 7am to 6pm

gaff 

Gaff café, located in the Riverside Building reception area, offers a range of hot and cold drinks and hot food and snacks.

Opening hours:

  • Monday — Friday: 7.30am to 6.30pm
  • Saturday: c losed on Saturday's until 13 September 2025
  • Sundays and bank holidays:  closed

 

Pharmacy services

Rowlands Pharmacy

Located on the ground floor, near main entrance.

  • Monday to Friday 8am to 7pm
  • Saturday 9am to 5pm
  • Sunday 12pm to 4pm
  • Bank Holidays 10am to 2pm

Please note: the pharmacy can only dispense medicines against University Hospital Lewisham prescriptions and not medicines prescribed by your GP. Medicines prescribed by your GP should be collected from a local or community pharmacy.

Cash machine

There is a cash machine just outside the main hospital entrance. Please note that the machine charges 99p per transaction.

Chaplaincy

Our chaplaincy service provides support and guidance for patients, carers and visitors of all faith or none when they are most in need.

To contact the chaplaincy, please call 020 8333 3299. You are also welcome to visit our chapel which can be found on the ground floor of the Waterloo Block.

Changing Places toilet

At University Hospital Lewisham there is a Changing Places Toilet for use by patients and carers who have either limited mobility or who need equipment and space to help them use the toilet or change a continence pad. The Changing Places Toilet has a power hoist and a rising bench, and space for you to manoeuvre if you use a wheelchair and/or to be assisted by a carer.

It can be found behind the Same Day Emergency Care Centre, (SDEC). You can get into it from Lewisham High Street via the courtyard entrance to the Pink Zone, opposite the ambulance bays. See our map of University Hospital Lewisham.

To use this facility you need a Changing Places key. Please note that our reception team do not have a spare key. You can get one of these from your council access officer or from Disability Rights UK.

We are looking to install a similar facility at Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Information about this will be posted here when has been installed and registered with Changing Places.

Patient transport services

The Trust provides a patient transport service for eligible patients who need assistance when travelling to and from the Hospital.
