Rewards and recognition

We want all our staff to feel valued, recognised and rewarded. We offer competitive salaries and a range of benefits.

Employee of the month

Pay

The Trust offers competitive salaries which include high cost area supplements linked to the primary base of work in London. Doctors have a specific pay system shown below.

NHS payscales for doctors

All other NHS Staff are paid under the Agenda for Change pay system, the national framework setting consistent terms and conditions and fair payscales for all NHS employees. This framework ensures each NHS job has a band from 1 – 9, indicating the payscale through which you will progress while in your role. We show the band for each job in all our recruitment advertising.

If joining us from another NHS employer, we will place you on the appropriate point on the scale to recognise your current experience. If you join us from an employer outside of the NHS, your manager will identify relevant experience to agree the appropriate point of scale.

Pensions

The NHS Pensions scheme is still one of the most generous and comprehensive in the UK, and working for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust gives you automatic access.

The package includes life assurance cover and survivor/dependent benefits, and is worth almost 20% of pay overall as an inflation-linked pension payable for life.

Annual leave

Annual leave entitlement for doctors is set out in specific Trust guidelines, which are available from our Medical Staffing and Education Team. For all other staff, when you start working for the NHS you receive the following paid annual leave, pro-rata, plus bank holidays:

  • 27 days when you start
  • 29 days after 5 years service
  • 33 days after 10 years service

Salary sacrifice benefits scheme

Our scheme offers a package of benefits subject to HMRC statutory regulations each year for staff with a minimum 12 month contract, sacrificing a proportion of salary before tax for any of the following options:

Car parking costs at/near the workplace – making the cost of your Trust car parking permit more affordable.

Childcare vouchers – helping reduce your childcare costs by sacrificing salary in return for tax free vouchers.

Cycling equipment – predominantly for commuting to work up to a maximum value of £1,000.

Subscription fees to professional bodies – an agreed amount sacrificed towards what can be expensive annual fees.

Staff recognition

There are lots of ways we celebrate staff at our Trust. Our recognition schemes include:

  • Long service awards for all staff who have completed 10, 25 and 40 years of service
  • Trust wide employee of the month
  • Divisional employee of the month
  • Annual star awards
