About the service
The Children’s Dietetic Team specialise in assessing a child’s nutritional requirements, food intake and growth both in times of health and disease.
We make sure all advice is tailored specifically to each child, based on age, treatment and medical condition. We see children in hospital, on the neonatal unit and children’s inpatient ward as well as running our own outpatient clinics and seeing other children at specialist clinic appointments.
All dietitians at the Trust are registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) that sets standards for the training, behaviour, and quality of care provided by healthcare professionals.
Who we can see
We see children and young people from birth to 16 years.
How to get a referral
You can be referred by your local GP or hospital doctor.
How we can help

- Fussy eating and feeding difficulties
- Children with complex needs
- Vitamin and mineral deficiencies e.g. iron deficiency

The Trust also provides home enteral nutrition through the Paediatric HEN Team.
Services available
We see all children referred from the Neonatal and Children’s Inpatient Ward for nutrition assessment and treatment, and have a weekly multidisciplinary nutrition ward round where children are reviewed.
Our own general clinics run on a Monday morning and we have weekly specialist multidisciplinary clinics for cystic fibrosis, diabetes, allergy and gastroenterology on different days of the week. We also have a monthly clinic at Kaleidoscope for children with complex needs.
Home visits can be provided for children with cystic fibrosis and diabetes. For children with cystic fibrosis we also offer cooking sessions in our demonstration kitchen for those families needing ideas for high calorie recipes.
Locations
Most of our outpatient clinics are held at University Hospital Lewisham. We also have one clinic a month at Kaleidoscope in Catford.
