Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy Service (OPAT)

The Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy Service (OPAT) offers treatment with intravenous (IV) antibiotics in outpatient settings or at home.

Our service is an alternative to inpatient admission for those who need treatment with IV antibiotics, but who may be well enough to be discharged or treated outside hospital. You can safely receive treatment in your own home or as an outpatient in the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) at University Hospital Lewisham.

The OPAT team is made up of a specialist OPAT nurse, an antimicrobial pharmacist, administrative support and a consultant microbiologist.
