World Book Day

In celebration of World Book Day today (2 March), our play team, school team, and mental health practitioners dressed as fictional characters on our children’s wards at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

World Book Day is a worldwide celebration of books and reading in which children dress up as their favourite book characters. This year’s theme was 'Your World Book Day'.

Carol Sullivan-Wallace, Health Play Specialist, explained: “World Book Day is a brilliant opportunity to celebrate the magic of stories and engage with our patients. This year we based it on the book 'Harry and his Bucket Full of Dinosaurs' and did several costume changes. We also gave out books to our patients, a toy dinosaur, and gift bags.

“One patient was overjoyed that we came to see her; the gifts were just a bonus because she was so disappointed that she would miss out on World Book Day at school. It was fantastic to see so many children and adults participating, and most importantly, so many smiles.”
