Our exceptional Nutrition and Dietetics teams
Congratulations to our LGT Stars of the Month, the Nutrition and Dietetics teams based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), University Hospital Lewisham (UHL), and the HEN and Children’s SEND community teams.
The teams were nominated for the All Stars Team Award. Here’s why: “The Nutrition and Dietetics teams consistently go above and beyond, delivering high-quality care while leading a major transformation across Southeast London.
Alongside their day-to-day clinical roles, they implemented the new Southeast London Contract for Nutritional Products and Support Services. This large-scale programme included changing all enteral feeds, oral nutritional supplements and feeding pumps across UHL and QEH, transitioning around 600 community patients to a new supplier, reviewing all tube-fed patients, and training approximately 1,000 colleagues.
This multidisciplinary team, including Dietitians, Nutrition Nurse Specialists, Speech and Language Therapists, Support Workers and administrative colleagues, worked in partnership with the ICB and other trusts to deliver this complex system-wide change.
What sets this apart is their focus on patients. They recognised that changes to feeding products can be worrying and ensured patients and carers felt informed, supported and reassured throughout.
The community transition was particularly complex, requiring close collaboration with health, social care and education partners. The team worked openly with colleagues, addressed concerns, and ensured strong governance, including the safe transition between suppliers.
Despite the scale of the programme, they maintained compassion, clear communication and teamwork throughout. Above all, they embodied succeeding together over achieving alone, supporting one another while continuing to deliver their core clinical service.
Their work reflects LGT’s vision to be exceptional, in the quality of care provided, in how colleagues are supported, and in the difference made through strong partnerships across our communities.
For their leadership, teamwork and unwavering focus on patient-centred care, the Nutrition and Dietetics teams are deserving of the All Stars Team Award.”
Joanne Ridgway, HEN Team Service Lead, said: “It’s fantastic to see the hard work of the Nutrition and Dietetics teams recognised with this month’s LGT Star award. Implementing Abbott as the new supplier for nutritional products and tube feeding supplies was a huge project and a genuine team effort. They should all be very proud of their leadership, compassion and unwavering focus on patient-centred care.”
Conrad Maramba, Head of Security and Local Security Management Specialist who chaired this month’s judging panel commented: “The panel agreed this nomination clearly demonstrates exceptional commitment beyond the expectations of the role, with strong evidence of supporting colleagues, improving the working environment, and positively impacting both patient and colleague experience.
