Ivy celebrates her 101st birthday at QEH

Colleagues on Ward 15 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) helped 101-year-old patient Ivy Mundey celebrate her birthday last week.

Ivy, from Woolwich was born on 16 March 1922, and staff on the ward surprised her with a cake, balloons and a card.

Ivy’s daughter, Barbara Smith said: "We would like to thank all the staff on Ward 15 who looked after my mum with so much kindness and care. You did a fantastic job of making her 101st birthday so special for her. Mum kept commenting on what a great day she had when we visited her at the hospital. Once again, thank you; it means a lot to us, especially Samantha because we know she organised everything."

Samantha Etienne, Manager on ward 15 added: "Ivy is a special lady, and turning 101 is a big deal, so we had to celebrate with her. For us, seeing her happy and singing along to the birthday songs was a beautiful moment, as being in the hospital on your birthday isn’t fun at all. We love to celebrate birthdays on our ward to make hospital life feel as much like everyday life as possible, and it really helps with the patient's well-being too."
