Fundraising firefighters

On Friday 3 February, firefighters from the Greenwich White Watch visited Safari Children’s Ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital to present a cheque for £2,600.

The firefighters, their families and friends raised the money following a visit to the ward on Christmas Day.

Firefighter Tom Hopkins said: “Visiting children who were too poorly to be at home on Christmas Day really tugged at our heartstrings. The nurses do such a fantastic job, and when one of them mentioned that they needed more sensory equipment and toys, we decided to do some fundraising.”

Julie Mingay, Senior Staff Nurse on Safari Ward, said: “We are so grateful for the generosity shown by our local firefighters. Their visit gave our patients and staff a real lift on Christmas Day, and for them to come back again in such a short space of time with this generous donation is just so thoughtful of them. The new equipment will make a huge difference to our young patients.”

If you feel inspired by the fundraising efforts of firefighters from the Greenwich White Watch and wish to make a difference to our young patients, please visit our charity’s website www.lgtcharity.org.uk or contact lg.charity@nhs.net to get involved.
