Hepatology

We provide hepatology services at Lewisham Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and in the community in Lewisham.

The department offers a service to adults diagnosed with viral hepatitis including treatment and monitoring clinics.

Our service has strong links across the south-east sector which means our patients have the opportunity to be considered for clinical trials and also be referred for assessment for liver transplant if required.

Who we can help

Our service predominantly see adult patients living within the borough of Lewisham who have been referred by their GP.

We have strong links with the antenatal service at University Hospital Lewisham who refer all women screened as Hepatitis B positive during pregnancy, as well as our local Drug and Alcohol service (CRI) who refer patients with Hepatitis C.

We can also see adult patients who live outside of Lewisham who request referral to our service.

Conditions we can treat

The department helps people to manage a range of conditions including

  • Hepatitis C
  • Hepatitis B
  • Co-infection of hepatitis B or C with HIV
  • Liver cirrhosis

We also manage a variety of non-viral based liver diseases including

  • Obesity related conditions
  • Alcohol related liver disease
  • Auto-immune liver conditions
  • Cholestatic liver conditions
