Blood Tests at Queen Elizabeth Hospital

Blood Tests

The Phlebotomy department provides an appointments only service for patients from Bexley and Greenwich with printed referrals from their GP. We continue to provide a service for patients referred from our outpatients clinics with electronic referrals from our Consultant Teams.

Our trained phlebotomists take blood from children, from birth to 16, in specialist paediatric clinics and we also take blood from patients on the wards at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Locations and opening times

Blood tests are currently by appointment only. Please do not show up at any of the clinics without an appointment. When you are referred for a blood test or other phlebotomy-related procedure, you should receive a form which lists the clinics and times where and when this is available to you.

As of 18 October 2021 we now have an online booking system for blood tests at all of our clinics.

Please note: you will need to bring a hard copy of your bloods request form to your booked appointment. If you do not bring this form, you will not be able to be seen, and will have to rebook. If you do not have this form, please contact your GP.

What services do we provide?

We provide a phlebotomy, testing and assessment service to local GPs, to our inpatient wards and to outpatients in the Bexley and Greenwich area.

Patients requiring a Glucose Tolerance test (GTT) should arrive between 8am and 9am only and report to reception.

Who are our services for?

At our main outpatient departments we provide a phlebotomy service for both adults and children over the age of 10.

Blood tests for children

We have worked with children’s outpatients to provide a specialised appointment-based, children’s phlebotomy service. Our clinics provide a child friendly environment, with a play specialist for distraction. Our phlebotomists have undergone specialist training to deal with children and patient feedback from these clinics has been very positive.

To make an appointment please telephone 020 8836 5053 (for Queen Elizabeth Hospital) or 020 3910 7230 (for Queen Mary’s Hospital)

How can I refer to the service?

Referrals are made via your GP or staff at QEH.
