Maternity Service Summary

Maternity Safegaurding Services

Safeguarding is a key prority for our maternity teams at our hospitals and in the community. We also have two specialist teams to support women who may require added care during pregnancy and in the first stages of motherhood:

Kaleidoscope, our award winning children's centre,  offer a case loading service to women with mental health diagnoses or complex social histories and young people of 18 and under

Women can also access the Liaison Antenatal Drug Service (LANDS). This is a joint clinic with CRI to support women with drug and alcohol dependencies

Safety in Maternity Services

Our vision is to provide safe, high quality services across our three hospital sites and in the community.

We have recently made a number of improvements to ensure the safety of women and babies who use our service, namely:

  • Improved fetal surveillance, including establishing fetal monitoring master classes and the appointment of fetal wellbeing and surveillance champions
  • Impletementing GAP protocol
  • Competency testing
  • Central monitoring
  • Providing off-site access for fetal heart traces, so on-call consultants can view fetal heart traces from home to improve decision making
