You can help us recruit the consultants of the future!
The Trust is looking for local people who are experienced in supporting their local community to help us recruit the next generation of medical consultants. We are creating a pool of Lay Chairs to support our Advisory Appointment Committees (AACs), which oversee the recruitment of new consultants across the Trust’s services.
As a Lay Chair, you will help ensure our recruitment process is fair, inclusive and focused on finding the best people to care for our communities. You do not need a medical background to apply – although some relevant experience and knowledge of the Trust would be a plus; see pack for details.
What matters most is good judgement, strong communication skills and a commitment to supporting exceptional local healthcare.

The role will require around one half-day per month. Panels are usually held at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich or University Hospital Lewisham, with some taking place online.
We particularly welcome applications from people who reflect the diversity of our local area, including those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, and people who identify as disabled or LGBTQ+.
The closing date for applications is Friday 28 November 2025. For more information (aside from what’s in the recruitment pack) or to apply, please email Majella Ahwieh, Board Secretary, at LG.BoardSecretary@nhs.net.
