Two of our anaesthetic trainees receive national awards

Congratulations to Dr Adam Blackstock and Dr Alex Aulakh, Anaesthetic Trainees at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT), who were awarded the prestigious Nuffield and Mackintosh Prizes for their exceptional performance in the Primary and Final FRCA exams.

Adam received the ‘Nuffield Prize’ for achieving the highest levels of distinction at the Primary FRCA examination, and Alex received the ‘Macintosh Prize’ for achieving the highest levels of distinction at the Final FRCA examination.

The Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCoA) awards the academic prizes to the candidates who excelled in that year. The FRCA exam is taken by 300 people annually from the United Kingdom and overseas. Only one of each of these prestigious awards is presented nationally per year.

Dr Preeya Chakraborty, Consultant in Anaesthetics and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, RCoA College Tutor, explained: "Historically we have had excellent rates of FRCA success in the Trust. However, it is extraordinary that two trainees from the same hospital have received both these accolades in the same year - a double triumph! It is a tribute to how hard working both academically and clinically Alex and Adam are. The anaesthetic department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) are immensely proud of their success. We are sure that both Alex and Adam will go on to have glittering careers in Anaesthesia."
