LGT Star of the Month April 2025

We are delighted to announce that Marie Kouam, Pharmacy Assistant at University Hospital Lewisham, has been named LGT’s Star of the Month for April, in recognition of her outstanding contribution during our Super March campaign.

Super March was LGT’s focused initiative to strengthen patient flow across our hospitals, particularly within the Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) pathway. In response to a Trust-wide call for volunteers, Marie stepped forward to offer her support, despite balancing a full time role in the Pharmacy department and the demands of a busy family life.

Marie’s dedication earned her a Star Player Award and here’s why: "Marie chose to volunteer at Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s Emergency Department reception on weekends, where her warm and compassionate approach made an immediate and lasting impression on both patients and colleagues. She quickly adapted to new responsibilities, learning how to book in patients and guide them through the Emergency Department process. She was willing to assist in any way that helped improve patient experience.

"She originally joined the Trust as a volunteer during the Covid-19 pandemic, and found it to be such a rewarding experience that she later joined permanently as a member of the Pharmacy team.

"Marie’s dedication, empathy, and willingness to support both patients and colleagues set a strong example for the team and reflect the core values of LGT. She’s a fantastic role model for the rest of our team, and this is a great example of someone who has truly gone above and beyond."

Marie was congratulated by her colleagues and presented with a certificate, a £100 voucher from LGT, and a fruit basket generously donated by Hasan Er, who runs the fruit stall at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Marie said: "It always feels good to know that efforts and contributions are recognised and valued. Winning the LGT Star of the Month has given me a real boost in self-esteem and motivation to keep doing what I love most, serving people, the community, and LGT.

Volunteering during Super March in the Emergency Department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital has been a fantastic learning experience. I'm grateful for the opportunity to support patients during what is often a stressful and vulnerable time.

"I would like to  thank Rachel Knight, our Chief Pharmacist and Clinical Director, for her support and leadership and to Jo Sutcliffe, Robert Sweeney, and the amazing Front Door Streaming Team at QEH Emergency Department. Well done and thank you to Colin, Lynne, and all my wonderful colleagues at the UHL Pharmacy Department, your support means so much."

Richard Smith, Key Account Manager at ISS and Chair of this month’s judging panel, commented: “Marie’s commitment to supporting the Super March initiative, while managing a full-time role and caring for a young family, is nothing short of remarkable. She is a truly deserving recipient of this award and an inspiration to us all.”
