Safari Ward's summer pirate shindig
Patients, families and colleagues enjoyed an "argh-mazing" day as Safari Ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital hosted its annual summer party, with this year's pirate theme proving a huge hit.
The ward was transformed into a pirate adventure, with children and young people taking part in pirate hat making, treasure hunts, games, crafts and exciting pirate challenges. Music, bubbles and plenty of laughter helped create a memorable morning for everyone.
The event was made possible thanks to the generosity of supporters, volunteers and local organisations. Special thanks go to the Old Royal Naval College Education Team, Hasan ER for donating fruit from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital fruit stall, Kerry Plumber for donating boxes and pirate cups, the Play Team, Crafty Wizards in Eltham, Spread a Smile charity, and the Autistic Inclusion Service in Woolwich.
Heather Damons, School Room Teacher at Queen Elizabeth Newhaven Hospital School, said: "This summer celebration was part of our 'School Trip in Hospital' programme. We are incredibly thankful to all of our external partners for their help and support. Their generosity helps enrich our patients' hospital experience and creates special memories for children and families during their stay."
Reflecting on the past year, the School Team added: "What a year it's been. We're so grateful to everyone who has donated their time, resources and encouragement. Your support has made a real difference, and we look forward to creating even more special moments for our patients in the year ahead."
Vicky Ranson, whose daughter attended the celebration, said: "What a lovely summer party. My daughter was on the ward last year and didn't get the chance to celebrate, so it's wonderful to be back and able to join in this year. The activities were fantastic, and my children especially loved the music and bubbles."
The Safari Ward team wishes all patients, families, colleagues and supporters a happy, restful and fun-filled summer.
