Portraits of nurse displayed at Southbank Centre exhibition

Portraits of staff nurse Rosemary Duruorjiaku, who works on the medical and surgical wards at University Hospital Lewisham, are featured in an exhibition celebrating the nation’s key workers at the Southbank Centre in London.

The outdoor exhibition titled ‘Everyday Heroes’ features work by 21 of the UK’s leading artists and poets. It pays tribute to the remarkable contributions that people around the country, including NHS workers, have made during the pandemic.

The term ‘key workers’ can be anonymising as well as respectful, and the collection aims to give the public a moment to stop and think about the lives and stories of these individuals and see their faces.

The portraits of Rosemary were created by her friend and local artist Barbara Walker, and are showcased on the side of the Southbank Centre as giant posters. Photographs of the portraits are also on Barbara's website.

The exhibition will run until 30 November.
