Celebrating our nurses and midwives

Nurses and midwives from University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital gathered today (Friday 11 May) to celebrate Nurses’ Day, which takes place each year on 12 May – Florence Nightingale’s birthday. The Trust employs more than 2,000 nurses and midwives, and it’s a chance for them to meet up, celebrate promotions and achievements, have fun, receive awards – and eat cake.

Angela Helleur, who has recently taken up the role of chief nurse at the Trust, said: “Our nurses and midwives are the heart and soul of the health service, and today is an opportunity to celebrate everything they do. They care for our patients during the best and worst moments of their lives and can make all the difference with a smile, a touch or a kind word. I’ve been overwhelmed by the compassionate care and professionalism I see every day at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, and these amazing people rightly deserve to be recognised with their own special day.”
