May’s Employee of the Month

Congratulations to Rebecca Mukasa, Deputy Ward Sister for Larch Ward at University Hospital Lewisham who has been chosen as our Employee of the Month for May 2021.

Her colleague Roseline Prisca Baguy Aka, a Healthcare Assistant on Larch Ward explained why she nominated her: “Rebecca is an outstanding Deputy Ward Sister – she is loved and appreciated by all the staff and patients on this women’s surgical ward. She is always available to listen, support, and lift us up. Her humanity, humility and kindness, on top of her devotion for the job, is visible every single day.”

“She encourages us to deliver the highest standard of care and shows respect and consideration to everyone no matter what their title or position is.”

“So often the first in and last to leave, Rebecca sometimes also gets in contact late at night or on her day off, to make sure that we are all ok on the ward. Rebecca is an unseen hero and a true blessing for everyone in our Trust.”

A proud Rebecca explained: “Winning this award came as a surprise and has made me feel valued and appreciated. I am forever grateful for being chosen and for the beautiful fruit basket. A special thanks to the Larch Ward Team for their continued support and team spirit.”

Joy Beishon, Chief Executive of Healthwatch Greenwich who chaired this month’s judging panel commented: “We chose Rebecca for being an exceptional role model, encouraging all who work on her ward to offer the highest standards of care and compassion. She is part of an outstanding professional team on Larch Ward – looking after patients, many with very high needs, and supporting families during such a difficult time. Rebecca and the entire team on Larch ward are exemplars.” Healthwatch is an independent champion for people who use health and social care services.

Sam Abdul, Head of Nursing, Surgery at UHL, Annie Anderson, Matron for Surgery at UHL and Joy Beishon congratulated Rebecca and presented her with a certificate. Rebecca was also presented with a fruit basket, generously donated by Hasan, who runs the fruit stall at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
