June LGT Star of the Month: Tracey Cotton

Congratulations to  Tracey Cotton, a Paediatric Phlebotomist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital,  who has been named  LGT Star of the Month for June.

Tracey has worked in the Phlebotomy Department for 13 years and was nominated by her colleagues for the Superstar Award. Here's why they nominated her:

"We would like to thank Tracey for her outstanding compassion, quick thinking, and dedication to children and families attending Dolphin Paediatric Outpatients.

"With 13 years of NHS service, Tracey is a valued member of the Phlebotomy Team, providing exceptional care across both adult and paediatric services. While she is highly regarded by colleagues in adult phlebotomy, she has become particularly recognised for her outstanding support of children, especially those with additional needs, vulnerabilities and needle phobia.

"Tracey consistently goes above and beyond to support children and families. She provides exceptional care while supporting and reassuring parents throughout appointments, ensuring they feel confident that their children are in safe hands.

"One recent example highlighted Tracey’s ability to adapt in a challenging situation involving a child with additional needs. Recognising that the child needed a different approach, she quickly created a calm, private space using a privacy screen, ensuring care could be delivered with dignity, compassion and minimal distress for the child and their family.

"Tracey’s kindness and flexibility extend to every aspect of her work. She is always willing to go the extra mile to support children and families, and colleagues describe her as an invaluable member of the team whose professionalism, empathy and commitment make a lasting difference every day.

"She is a real asset to the Phlebotomy Team and Dolphin Paediatric Outpatients. She makes our department a better place for patients, families and colleagues, and is a deserving of this recognition."

Tracy was congratulated by her colleagues presented her with a certificate, a £100 voucher from LGT, and a fruit basket donated by Hasan Er, who runs the fruit stall at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Tracey said: “I’m so grateful to have been named LGT Star of the Month for June. Seeing this recognition and reading the kind words from my colleagues means so much to me, it has really given me a lift.

"I always do my best for my patients, the children and families I support, and it means a lot to know that my work is appreciated.

"Thank you to all my colleagues for your continued support, and everything you do.”

Peter Barnes, Head of Operations, HATS, who chaired this month's judging panel, said: “Tracey has been recognised for her quick thinking and compassion when caring for a child with additional needs. Her nomination highlights her dedication, adaptability and commitment to delivering outstanding care. She is a deserving winner of LGT Star of the Month.”
