Celebrating Volunteer’s Week 2025

LEO GRAPHIC VOLUNTEERS' WEEK.

This year, Volunteers’ Week takes place from Monday 2 to Sunday 8 June

This national celebration of volunteering and the amazing contribution it makes in communities around the UK is now in its 40th year! Volunteering added £4.6 billion in productivity gains to the UK economy in 2024 and 25 million people volunteered at least once in the past year, with over 14 million doing so once a month.

Here at LGT we have over 250 dedicated volunteers who are here to help us in a wide variety of ways. All determined to give something back to LGT and their local communities.

Margarita Vidiella, Head of Charity and Volunteers at LGT said: “We love Volunteers’ Week as it’s such a great opportunity to show just how much we value our fantastic volunteers. The unsung heroes who are so committed and generous with their time and so happy to help in whatever role they take on. Whether it’s greeting patients and visitors, (at often stressful moments), supporting clinical teams on wards or admin roles or giving patients that extra reassurance and practical support they need including at mealtimes. Thank you, from me, the team and everyone here at LGT!”

Watch our short video to hear from some of our volunteers about what motivates them and what they love about their roles. Including Leo, who volunteers on our dementia ward and was a patient here himself. He talks about his drive to give something back to LGT.

Leo says: “The NHS didn’t just save my life. They gave my grandmother dignity at the end of hers,” he says. “Volunteering is the least I can do to say thank you.” Read Leo's story.

Ben Tr avis, Chief Executive said: ‘’From myself, and everyone here at LGT, we want to express our thanks and gratitude to our amazing volunteers. The time and energy you give to selflessly to support our patients, visitors and colleagues - in a huge range of roles - is sincerely appreciated. I always enjoy meeting volunteers around the Trust, and I look forward to celebrating Volunteers’ Week together - you are the very best example of our community coming together, caring and being there for each other and it just wouldn’t be the same here without you. Thank you, for everything you do.’’
