Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust trialling new stroke rehab app

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust is trialling the award winning ‘Stroke Active’ a new stroke rehabilitation app designed to help stroke patients recover faster. The app enables patients to communicate with HCPC registered therapists in their area and form a bespoke rehab programme to help aid their recovery.

Patients at University Hospital Lewisham’s stroke rehabilitation ward are being offered the chance to try the app for free, which will help them to continue their rehab after they have left hospital.

Erika Pearce, Managing Director at Stroke Active said, “Stroke Active was developed following my father-in-law’s stroke in April 2017. We realised that during these first few months, far too many stroke survivors are not achieving their full recovery potential. Our mission at Stroke Active is to make the assistance each stroke survivor needs much more readily available and to increase the level of patient self-management.

Communication between all members of the patient’s team is made easier through a dedicated Message Board specific to each patient. Stroke Active allows videos to be stored on the patient’s iPad or iPhone and labelled. We have invested heavily in data security and are fully GDPR compliant. The response since our launch in January has been fantastic as Stroke Active seems to be addressing some widespread issues in neuro rehab”.
