Serving Our Local Communities

Cutty Sark

We are currently delivering a major quality improvement plan to ensure we serve our local communities as effectively as possible.

This includes a large number of developments right across the Trust, and some of these are described below:

Building our workforce

Following a review of staffing levels, we have recruited more than 300 additional staff across the organisation since October 2013. This has included more than 200 extra nursing staff, so we can provide the best care for patients.  We plan to recruit even more over the coming months.

Introducing new ways to minimise the risk of infection

We have introduced lots of new equipment to make sure everyone has clean hands whilst at our hospitals. This includes new hand hygiene foam dispensers in public areas around our hospitals, and door handle dispensers on key wards.

Improving services for patients who need emergency care

We are working with partners to make improvements for patients who need emergency care.  Recent work has included opening wards and increasing the number of beds for patients who come through our emergency departments and need to be admitted.

Of course, it’s also important that local people only use emergency departments (A&Es) for emergencies and for when they need urgent hospital care.  You can visit nhs.uk or call 111 if you want to find out the other options that are available, such as pharmacists which are open late.

Additional improvements to services

We have also made changes in a range of other key areas, including major improvements to maternity services, significant investment in new diagnosis equipment and new and improved services in the community.

About the Campaign

“Since Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust was formed in October 2013, we have been working hard to respond to feedback from local people and enhance the services we provide. During this time we have made a wide range of improvements that are tailored to the specific needs of our local communities, and it’s important for us to make sure the people we serve are aware of this work.”
