Pathology at University Hospital Lewisham

The department is involved in diagnostic testing of a very wide range of conditions and 70% of diagnoses depend on pathology testing. The service performs diagnostic testing to a large number of departments within the hospital, outpatient clinics and primary care.

The department encompasses a wide range of disciplines and services including:

  • Haematology and blood transfusion - 24/7 service
  • Clinical biochemistry - 24/7 service
  • Histology
  • Phlebotomy (blood tests)
  • UHL Mortuary and Bereavement services provides post mortem services and provides support and assistance to bereaved relatives and friends.


The Pathology Department is located on the 1st and 2nd Floors of the Pathology Block in the Pink Zone at University Hospital Lewisham.

Mortuary: Located at the south end of the site (near Albacore Crescent). There is a car park close by.

There is no self-referral, patients can be referred by medical staff, nursing staff and GPs.
