Our maternity team have launched a dedicated maternity helpline to provide women and their families as well as GPs and other health care professionals with direct and easy access to maternity-related information. You can now call 020 8836 4491 to speak to an experienced midwife every weekday from 10am-5pm.
The helpline aims to provide information, advice or support in any of the following areas:
- pre-pregnancy (preconception)
- Pregnancy or antenatal care
- Birth, place of birth
- Postnatal care
- Neonatal/baby care
- Becoming a new parent
- Information on local services
- Information on Trust service and facilities
Nina Sutherland, Senior midwife who set up the helpline, said:
“It is incredibly important that the women we care for can access the support and advice they need. I have found that women already booked for pregnancy care are not quite sure who they should phone for general advice in between scheduled appointments. Similarly, vulnerable women who may not otherwise access care until late in the pregnancy now have a quick and easy way to speak to a health care professional, without having to book an appointment.”
Giuseppe Labriola, Deputy Head of Midwifery, said:
"Improving access to maternity care is important to our maternity service at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. Our new initiative makes it even easier to contact our midwives, all of whom provide personalised care tailored to your individual needs".
As well as the Maternity Helpline non-urgent questions can be sent to Edie, our e-Midwife by emailing LG.firstname.lastname@example.org.
Edie is answered by an experienced practicing midwife at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. A response can be expected within 48 hours.
