Donation to Macmillan Brook Unit, QEH

The Fracture Clinic at Queen Elizabeth hospital (QEH) has raised £510 through a bric-a-brac stall for the Macmillan Brook Unit, QEH, to support patients and families through their cancer journey.
Rita Pabari, lead nurse Fracture Clinic, QEH, who has worked for the Trust for 30 years, chose the Macmillan Brook Unit as she herself battled breast cancer in 2013. Rita said: “Having gone through cancer treatment I know what a daunting and scary experience it is, but working for the Trust really helped me get through it. I was so well supported by everyone from the service. I wanted to be able to give something back to the MacMillan Brook Unit and to hopefully help raise awareness about cancer too.”
Lisa McGarry, Matron Cancer Services/Lead Chemotherapy Nurse, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust said: “Rita is an inspirational and exceptional member of staff she received treatment for breast cancer at the unit  and it was not an easy journey for her. Every year Rita’s team raise money for the Trust for different needs last year it was dementia and now cancer through cakes sales and bric-a- brac stalls, the team come in on their days off to facilitate these events. This donation to our unit is invaluable and really makes a difference to our patients.”
